Cascading setting
A cascading setting is a billing field whose effective value comes from the first non-null layer in a three-level fallback chain: per-asset override → syndicate default → system default. If the asset has an override, it wins; otherwise the syndicate default is used; otherwise the platform’s system default applies.
All the main billing fields cascade: usage rate, shortfall rate, weekday and weekend minimum usage, event fees, time capture mode, billing basis, taxi minutes, and the engine-meter and clock-time labels.
A small set of settings do not cascade — they apply uniformly to every asset in the syndicate. “Require booking approval”, “show member names on bookings”, and the privacy toggles are syndicate-wide and cannot be overridden per asset.
