Member

A member is the standard participant in a syndicate. Members do the day-to-day work of using the asset: they make bookings, log usage, report squawks, submit expenses, and see their own balance. They cannot manage other members or change syndicate settings.

Most people in any syndicate are members.

Anyone who joins a syndicate starts as a member unless the inviting admin picks a different role on the invite.

A member’s equity status (their share count) and their billing scheme are separate concepts from role. Both describe financial state, not capability; role decides what a member can do, while shares and scheme decide what they pay and how cost splits and votes are weighted. All three are orthogonal. See Roles, equity, and member rates.

Members carry no special badge; they are simply listed on the Members tab without an admin label. Everything a member can do is in the usual places: Calendar, Bookings, Balance, and the asset screens.

A member can:

  • A member can only edit and cancel their own bookings. They cannot act on other members’ bookings.
  • If the syndicate has booking approval enabled, a member’s new bookings start as pending and need admin approval. An admin’s own bookings skip the pending queue.
  • A member cannot access admin screens: pending approvals, unconfirmed squawks, expense approvals, unfinalised-bookings queue, syndicate settings, or the invite screen.
  • A member cannot change their own role or anyone else’s; role changes are admin-initiated.
  • A member cannot leave while they have unresolved payments or bookings; Leave a syndicate lists exactly what counts.

For the distinction between roles and member rates, see Roles and member rates.
